Renewables

Unlock and understand the specifics of this growing sector.

This course is for participants who already have a working knowledge of financial modelling and are moving into Renewable Energy or working as advisors / lenders on these types of projects.

This sector demands models which require specific functionality and considerations, essential for the analysis that will be required for investment / lending decisions. Nick’s market leading expertise in renewables means we cover the intention and commercial background of all aspects of all renewable projects from Pre-Development through to FID and Divestment.

Nick has held the role of Chief Analytical Officer for a 20GW+ solar and wind platform and can give you the insider’s view on what is needed in the model and everything that happens in the background.

You will start from a model that has basic timing set-up, and develop together the essentials of a collocated Wind and Solar single project model, transparently, from scratch:

  • Phases: Pre-Development, Development, Construction, Operations and Divestment.
  • Solar and wind generation - with capacity factors, degradation, different asset configuration.
  • Contracted vs Merchant revenue.
  • Development Expenditure and Capital Expenditure: what is spent when and who pays for it.
  • Operating Expenditure – typical considerations.
  • Return metrics and Levelised Cost of Electricity.
  • Scenario analysis for different equipment configurations and generation confidence levels.

Throughout the course we will discuss:

  • From a developer, investor and lenders perspective the different phases of the project from land optioning through to Divestment; from first-hand experience.
  • Physical aspects of Wind and Solar Generation, Sodar, Lidar and the meaning behind all loss factors.
  • Integrating BESS into a Financing Model and BESS parameters.
  • Considerations for modelling a portfolio (with full demonstration).
